TCS Resume Format 2025: ATS Tips, Keywords & Template

TCS processes hundreds of thousands of applications annually across both campus and lateral hiring channels. Their recruitment workflow uses automated parsing to match candidates against open requirements across service lines — banking, retail, manufacturing, healthcare, and more. Each open requirement has a keyword profile derived from the client's technology stack and the role's deliverables.

For lateral hires, the initial screen is almost entirely ATS-driven. A recruiter typically reviews only profiles that cross a minimum relevance threshold. This means a candidate with 5 years of relevant experience can be filtered out if their resume does not clearly surface the right signals — while a less experienced candidate with a well-structured, keyword-aligned resume clears the initial screen.

For lateral candidates, the recommended section order is: Contact Information, Professional Summary (3–4 lines), Technical Skills, Work Experience (reverse chronological), Education, and Certifications. This order front-loads the information the TCS ATS and recruiters care most about — your skills and what you have delivered — before getting into educational background.

For freshers, the order shifts slightly: Contact Information, Career Objective or Summary, Technical Skills, Academic Projects, Education (with grades if above 7.0 CGPA), Internships (if any), and Certifications or Achievements. Education and projects carry more weight for freshers, but they should still come after a skills section that clearly lists your technology stack.

Technical keywords vary by service line but commonly include: Java, Python, .NET, SQL, Oracle, SAP, AWS, Azure, Salesforce, Selenium, JIRA, Agile, Scrum, REST APIs, microservices, Spring Boot, Angular, React, and DevOps tooling. The specific terms you should prioritise depend entirely on the JD you are applying to — always read the requirements section carefully and mirror its language.

Non-technical signals that improve relevance scores include client-facing terms like 'requirement gathering', 'stakeholder communication', 'delivery management', and domain keywords relevant to the vertical (e.g. 'BFSI', 'core banking', 'retail supply chain', 'claims processing'). TCS values domain understanding in addition to technical skills, particularly for lateral roles.

Freshers should lead with projects that demonstrate hands-on application of relevant technologies. A final-year project on 'E-commerce platform using React, Node.js, and MongoDB' with a brief description of what was built and why is far more ATS-effective than a generic statement about being 'passionate about software development'. List the specific technologies used so they appear as parseable keywords.

Lateral candidates should quantify their impact wherever possible. 'Managed a team of 4 developers to deliver a payment integration module 2 weeks ahead of schedule' is stronger than 'was part of the team that delivered the payment module'. Numbers — team size, timelines, performance improvements, cost savings — significantly increase the credibility and ATS relevance score of experience bullets.

Run through these five checks before submitting to any TCS opening. First, confirm your resume is single-column with no tables or text boxes. Second, verify that every keyword from the JD requirements section appears somewhere in your resume — preferably in context. Third, ensure your section headings are standard labels (Experience, Skills, Education, Certifications).

Fourth, check that your contact information is in the body of the document, not in a header or footer that parsers may skip. Fifth, save as a standard PDF and do a plain-text paste test to confirm the content reads coherently without formatting. These five checks take under 10 minutes and meaningfully improve your chances of clearing the initial screen.
